Public Comment

All board meetings include time for public comment toward the end of the meeting. If you would like to make a public comment at one of DDESโ€™ Board of Director meetings, please complete this form. All public comment requests must be received by 2 p.m. two days before the board meeting. Please note that to ensure the smooth running of the meeting, only attendees who have registered for public comment will be permitted to address the board.

To manage the Board and the publicโ€™s time in the most effective manner and to include as many community voices as possible, there is a three-minute time limit for individual speakers. If four or more individuals sign up as a group on the same topic, they are allotted 10 minutes to arrange their time in any respectful way the collective individuals decide. The board will not answer questions or hold public discussions on comments. Questions may be answered by email following meetings.
All formal contacts with or questions about the Board should be sent to Board Chair, Beth Moyski, at board.chair@ddeschool.org.

About the Board

As a charter school and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, DDES is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Board member responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and evaluating performance toward goals.
  • Establishing general policies.
  • Reviewing and analyzing financials.
  • Approving the overall budget for the organization.
  • Managing and evaluating the Executive Director.
  • Advocating and building community support and will for the organization.
  • Establishing and performing work needed within committee or other structures.
  • Fundraising.
  • Other governance functions and duties as needed.

The Board is committed to a diverse make-up of members from a variety of backgrounds, and spots open on the board are dependent on term limits and current needs. Board members are elected to three-year terms and can serve no more than two consecutive terms. Vacancies are filled by a vote of the board.
