My name is Colette Franz (she/her) and I am the new Social Worker here at DDES! I am originally from Los Angeles, but moved out to Denver about two years ago. I love spending time in the mountains and would choose the mountains over the ocean any day! Some other fun facts about myself…I am the middle of 5 kids in my family, I speak French, and I love Japanese sweet potatoes. Definitely my favorite food.
As for my background, I obtained my Bachelor’s in Psychology from UCLA where I also minored in Applied Developmental Psychology. At UCLA, I focused my studies on researching and implementing developmentally appropriate practices with infants and toddlers. I also worked as a Suicide Crisis Counselor, and led peer groups for students experiencing depression and anxiety. I then went on to the University of Denver where I obtained my Master’s in Social Work. While obtaining my Masters, I worked with foster youth ages 9-11 at a non-profit in Denver called Fostering Healthy Futures. There I led community-based social-emotional interventions and skills groups. The 30-week program focuses on building skills such as emotion identification/regulation, problem-solving, and self-advocacy. I then went on to the Postpartum Wellness Center of Boulder, where I led assessments and individual therapy sessions with parents experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
I am excited to continue my work of supporting families and children here at DDES. I am dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space for students of all identities, backgrounds, and cultures to feel supported so that they can thrive in the classroom. I am a resource here to offer support or guidance with any social-emotional concerns or questions you or your kiddo(s) may have. I look forward to working collaboratively to address your family’s needs, whether that’s through individual, group work, or resource connection.
