Special Education
Sarah Hutcheson, a native of Washington, D.C., took a long and winding career detour before moving to Denver shortly before the start of the 2025-2026 school year to work at DDES. After spending eight years post-college in Dallas, Texas working in real estate, she decided to pursue her true calling: advocating for and supporting students with learning disabilities. Her inspiration stems from her experience with a special ed teacher who helped her overcome her own learning disability. To support her career shift, Sarah returned to Washington to earn a master’s degree in Special Education from American University. As part of her coursework, she gained classroom experience in both public and private schools. Her work as a paraeducator with second-grade students and as a teacher’s assistant in a fourth-grade classroom shaped her views about the type of educational environment she prefers. Those insights led her to DDES.
She is passionate about building strong, long-term relationships with students and families and thrives in a collaborative, inclusive school environment. Sarah’s professional strengths include designing individualized lesson plans, tailoring instruction to meet diverse learning needs, and analyzing IEPs to ensure goals and objectives are met and in compliance with legal standards.
