Special Education
Hello, DDES families! My name is Jenna, and I’m excited to begin my 4th year at DDES and my 11th year as a teacher! I serve as the K-2 Special Education Teacher and Special Education Team Lead, and feel incredibly fortunate to support our students as they work toward their individualized education plan (IEP) goals. I love getting to know each student, celebrating their strengths, and helping them grow into confident learners. I’m currently on maternity leave and can’t wait to be back with our DDES students and families in November!
I began my studies in Canada at the University of Toronto, and later graduated from Metropolitan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education and an endorsement in Elementary Education. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. As a child, I would ask my grandfather, who was also a teacher, to play school with me. He would even make “homework” for me and grade it as if I were his student! He was the person who first encouraged me to become a teacher, and I am forever grateful that he did.
At home, I live with my husband, Hendrik, our son, Nico, and our three fur babies (Hercules the husky, Roo the Belgian malinois, and Oliver the tabby cat). I love spending time with my family, and soaking up all the special moments with my newborn.
